When I was young, I didn't have stagefright. Even though I got nervous, I could sing (do a turn) at weddings and in class at school. But, that all changed as a teenager and now, I can't perform in front of an audience - I struggle to speak.
I wrote this tune after going to a Folk Session in Crieff (where I actually took my guitar and joined in - although I couldn't perform on my own!)

It's the same Black Abbot feeling, that I always get
My mouth is getting dry and my palms are getting wet
And every breath is shallow as my pulse begins to rise
Till the heartbeats are exploding and there's panic in my eyes.
My fingers are like putty
and I'm reaching fight or flight
The audience is waiting
Their eyes like laser sights
Just get out there and all of this will pass

But a maelstrom of adrenalin has me now
Each second is eternity I can't seem to make a sound
But I'm deafened by the silence and the room is spinning round
And every pulse a bass drum that's bursting in my ears
Till I hear my voice from far away wavering with fear
My fingers are like putty

With eyes like laser sights
Just get out there and all of this will pass
